InDesign - Insert a Text Box and Text

InDesign does not let text into a document without a 'handle'. That is a text box. This applies to both typed text and copy/pasted text.

If you have a lot of text, you may consider typing it in Word, then spell check and then copy/paste. Word has a better spell checker and dictionary too!

After you have put in the text, you can then format the text.

InDesign defaults to hyphenation when text over-shoots the line in a text box. You can turn this off by selecting from the menu Type, Paragraph, a dialogue box appears. Uncheck the hyphenation option. Though hyphenation is quite common in newspapers, magazines and books.

The font face, font height and colour can also be changed, the same way as in Word. Select the text, then the font face and the height, the the colour. Myriad Pro Web is a good font, or Myriad Pro.

When putting text in, think about the white space. White space makes reading easier! That is keeping the sentences and paragraphs short and well spaced. You can also use the journalism concept that a sentence is a paragraph!

You can also put a text box over an image, but make absolutely sure the text is completely readable and you do not 'over write' the image! The text box and text frame do not print, when the final work is saved as a .pdf to print.
