Year 8 - Digital Imaging

Image Adjustments and Filtering - Part 1

You need to find12 images.

You can go to RMWebed.com.au and select 12 different images either from:

Sapphire Beach Sunrises or Coffs Area Photos, or Photo Galleries.

Or you can research your own, but not for more than one lesson. Images must be greater than 2mb, no smaller images whatsoever, as they just won't work!

1/. The next step is to start digitising the images, using a series of Filter commands an Image Adjustments.

Here you will use Photoshop and change (re-digitise) the images.

2.1 The first image - using the Filters/Render/Difference Clouds, digitise the image. See the example below. (The larger image is under the thumbnail).

2/. This time using a different image you will do three steps to re-digitise the next image.

3.1 Filter/Distort/Twirl, then Filter/Stylize/Solarize.

3/. Using another image, this time you are using the Image/Adjustments/Colour Balance - then set the colour adjusters in Red and Yellow to produce a Sepia Effect Image.

4/. Using another image, this time using Image/Adjustments/Posterise.

5/. Using another image, this time using Filters/3D - Generate Normal Map.

6/. Crop an Image. Choose an image and using the crop tool take out some of the image.

7/. Blur part of an image. A blurred image is usually unacceptable, however a digitised partial blur is quite the opposite, as it shows digital creativity. Use Filter/Blur Gallery/Iris Blur. Just like a depth of field in a camera, you can have a sharp oval centre and the outer areas can be blurred out.

8/. Image Liquefy. This creates a fun image by extending and reshaping objects. Filter/Liquefy.

9/. Create a Fisheye Effect. Filter/Adaptive Wide Angle/Fisheye (use the settings - Scale Max :100, Focal Length: Min 28, Crop: Min 0.15), then using the Paint Bucket fill in the background.

10/. Create an Adaptive Wide Angle Effect. Filter/Adaptive Wide Angle/Perspective (use the settings - Scale: 150, Focal Length: 28, Crop: 0.20)

11/. Create a 3D effect - Sketch Scattered. 3D/New Tiled Painting from Layer.

12/. Create an image with distortions.

Filter/Distort/ZigZag.

Image Adjustments/Threshold Level (approximately 100, depending on the image). Image/Invert.
