Singapore does not have any land to spare, so most Singaporeans live in high-rise apartments. It is an island on which only about 1,500 hectares of farm land remains, most of Singapore Island being taken up with urban apartment blocks, commercial buildings, industrial areas, plus parks and nature reserves. As land is scarce, most of the population live in high rise apartments (or the more expensive high rise condominiums - condos). The Singapore HDB (Housing Development Board) provides inexpensive rental apartments. A small number live in older style housing, above shops. The very rich live in houses. Here are some examples of housing in Singapore.
