Images - Create a Montage.

There are quite a few steps to this unit of work.

Here's an example of a finished montage.

It is made up of a Background image, an elephant (resized three times and an aircraft).

1/. First find an image as your background.

Suggestions a landscape, an ocean, a beach, a desert, a jungle.

2/. Then find an image or two to go 'over the top' . These images will need to be resized to balance with the background.

In choosing the 'over the top ' image needs to have a non-busy background, as this has to be erased. An elephant in the jungle with heaps of bush would be hard to separate from the background, as opposed to a one-colour background.

Make sure the objects background has as little detail as possible, as you need to erase the background.

How to remove the background, go to this link.

3/. The above montage is made up of:

A Background.

An elephant, resized three times, after the background has been removed.

An aircraft.

The background size is 1280px wide.

The downloaded elephant size was 1000px wide.

The downloaded aircraft was 3540px wide.

The background needs to be 1280px maximum and can be reduced by using the Image Adjustments/Image/Size command 1280px and ensure the Proportions are set to constrained (equal adjusting to width and height).

The over the top image has a background that needs to be erased.

1/. Create a new transparent file, that is file/new/transparent background (file size the same as the image you are going to put 'over the top' of the background). If the transparent option does not appear, go to Advanced Options/Transparent.

2/. Then copy/paste the original image onto the transparent background.

3/. Then using the Magic Wand Tool select the background and the Eraser to remove the background. If there is any background left you need to select it and erase it. Ensure the background is clear of 'debris', as this will show up on the background image.

There are several other tools you may need to 'clean up' the background.

4/. Make a decision about the sizing of the foreground and Image Adjustments/ Image/Size and downsize the image if necessary.

5/. Save the image as either a CompuServe Gif. or a .PNG file. This will give you the clear background you need.

6/. Close the original .JPG image and open the new transparent background image, then copy paste to the background.

7/. Do the same for your second foreground image, ensuring the sizing is as you want it to be.
8/. Then place your 'over the top' images onto the background image, to make your Montage.
