Build a Simple Website - ICTWEB302

In this module you will design and create a multi-linked website on a negotiated educational and interesting theme.

Your website will be developed in stages, with content being added from other modules in the course.
Using Adobe Dreamweaver (THS industry standard software), design a website that will be (temporarily) housed and tested on RMWebed.
The website must be organised - that is in a folder, with links. Images must be separately filed in page categories in a series of folders. Images should not be moved from folder to folder, or they will disappear from the page and then will need to be re-linked.

The website will feature:

A minimum of eight main linked pages, with sub-linked pages off the main pages. As an example refer to RMWebed website.

One link page will feature a photo gallery of your own work.

The site must have an Index (Home Page).

Every page must have links to the other pages as well as link back to the Home Page.

Text based content.

Images (of the highest quality), which you may have taken or digitally imaged in Photoshop.

Tables and nested tables (tables within tables).

You can also include one (or more) of the following: video, audio, Youtube video, Flash.

Pages do not need to be printer friendly - that is they do not need to fit an A4 sheet of paper.

In this project task, the assessment will be the progressive building of your website


Before you start your webpage design you need to do some planning. The planning will include looking at how many main link pages will there be and what they will be named.

You can always within a webpage have sub-linked pages, for example:

After planning your main links, the next step is to plan your Master Page. The Master Page works like a template. It sets up how all the main link pages are going to work.

In planning the Master Page there are some considerations to be taken into account.

All content needs to be houses in a Table. The Table width should not exceed 1060px, to ensure comparability will most devices including tablets and mobile phones. (See Tables).

A colour scheme needs to be decided. That is the outer background and inner table, as well as font colour. (See colour schemes).

There should be a suitable logo or head page image. (See Headers).

There eventually will need to be navigation to each main link page, also with a link back to the Home Page - Index Page. The links table will be created after all the main link pages have been created. (See Navigation Links).

Consistency plays an important role in webpage design. That applies to the Page Layout, Navigation, Colour Scheme and Page Header Images.

Image sizes are also important and should not exceed the Table Width. (See Tables).

Images are an important component of any website. A picture is worth 1000 words is an industry expression which is 'so' correct. Images must always be of high quality (See Images).

Behind every webpage is the HTML code. You do not need to code the pages as Dreamweaver does this for you. But sometimes Dreamweaver 'wanders off on it's own', so you need to know how a page is made and some of the things that may go wrong in the code. (See HTML).
